Description of CPE
CPE Programs are offered to ordained clergy, seminarians, the religious, and lay persons without regard to race, gender, ethnic or religious group, or sexual orientation. The CPE Programs provide experience of spiritual care ministry through chaplain assignments to multi-disciplinary patient-care teams in one or more of the four settings. CPE utilizes the clinical method of learning through individual supervision, case presentations, group seminars, didactic sessions, and spiritual reflection/practice, within the context of an individualized learning contract. All CPE participants are encouraged to encounter and integrate secular and spiritual teaching in order to enhance their theological journeys. Small groups provide an atmosphere to explore personal relational styles in order to learn through the giving and receiving of feedback. Interns and Residents also provide leadership for interfaith prayer services and occasional or special services held within the UCLA Health System.
