Clinical Social Work Services
| The mission of the Clinical Social Work Department at UCLA Health is to help patients and their families understand, adjust to and cope with the impact of illness or injury in order to maximize their level of functioning and quality of life. |
The Clinical Social Work Department at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center and Santa Monica UCLA Medical Center & Orthopaedic Hospital provides psychosocial support, interventions and assists in the development of coping strategies for patients and families during a hospitalization. Clinical Social Workers assist patients and families with physical, emotional and social issues and concerns that exist during a hospital stay. Clinical Social Workers communicate knowledge about health and illness including grief and loss to patients and families that will promote active participation and collaboration in their treatment and care.
These services include, but are not limited to:
- Patient and Family Support Groups
- Completing comprehensive Biopsychosocial Assessments
- Facilitating crisis Intervention and Emergency Services
- Providing Clinical Social Work interventions, coordination of care, and treatment strategies with a patient and family's medical team that includes Case Managers, Child Life Specialists, Spiritual Care, Nurses and Physicians
- Empowering patients' self determination, decision making and mobilization to identify and utilize their personal resources
- Acting as liaisons within the hospital setting and providing advocacy for patients and families
- Providing supportive counseling and assistance for patients and families to navigate through lifestyle changes related to acute and chronic illnesses.
