Video Tele-Interpreting

UCLA Health System is proud to offer Video Tele-Interpretation to our patients.  

This technology allows the patient, provider, and interpreter to quickly connect and interact face-to-face ensuring high-quality, timely patient care in a language the patient can understand. 

The service is available through our partnership with the Health Care Interpreter Network (HCIN). There are currently more than 60 qualified medical interpreters on line within the HCIN network, providing Spanish, American Sign Language, Arabic, Armenian, Cambodian, Cantonese, Farsi, Hindi, Hmong, Korean, Lao, Mandarin, Mien, Russian, Spanish, Thai, Tongan, and Vietnamese, among others. 

The system is available 7am-9pm on weekdays and 8:30am-4:30pm on weekends.

UCLA is currently among an elite group, being 1 of only 18 hospitals within California to use this technology to assist our patients.

Features of Video Interpreting:

  • Allows the care provider and patient to communicate effectively and to follow the treatment plan
  • Allows us to serve more Limited English Proficient (LEP) patients
    √  Uses the hospital's own interpreters in high-volume languages
    √  Accesses additional languages from colleague hospitals
    √  Accesses an American Sign Language interpreter by video 24/7
