UCLA Center for the Health Sciences
The UCLA Center for the Health Sciences (CHS) is one of the largest health-science centers in the country and encompasses nearly all of the university's patient care, clinical education and research programs and facilities. Patient care
Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Westwood provides internationally recognized patient care in nearly every medical specialty to more than 300,000 people each year from Los Angeles and around the world. Founded in 1955 as the primary teaching hospital for the UCLA School of Medicine (now the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA), the non-profit and self-supporting medical center is operated by the University of California Board of Regents. The new state-of-the-art hospital has 520 large, private patient rooms and employs 1,500 full-time physicians and more than 2,500 support staff. The facility is one of the first total replacement hospitals built to meet to California’s latest seismic safety standards.
Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center and Orthopaedic Hospital (SM-UCLA & OH) is highly regarded for its many outstanding clinical programs, including women's and children's services, emergency services and family medicine. It also serves as the clinical home of the UCLA Comprehensive Spine Center and inpatient home of the UCLA Geriatrics Program. A cornerstone of the Westside community since 1926, the 279-bed, acute-care medical center became part of the UCLA Health System in 1995 and is operated by the University of California Board of Regents.
In 2007, SM-UCLA & OH will begin opening key parts of its 271-bed replacement hospital, including a new Nethercutt Emergency Center, Birthing Center, 16-bassinet Neonatal Intensive-Care Unit and inpatient units. The remainder of the new hospital is scheduled for completion in 2009.
Stewart and Lynda Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital at UCLA is an independently accredited and licensed hospital located at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Westwood. The facility offers a continuum of psychiatric services across the life span in a warm and supportive environment with 75 large, private patient rooms. UCLA's inpatient and outpatient clinical programs in psychiatry serve approximately 80,000 patients each year. Founded in 1960 as the UCLA Neuropsychiatric Hospital, the non-profit and self-supporting hospital is operated by the University of California Board of Regents. Research programs at the Jane and Terry Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior complement hospital services.
Mattel Children's Hospital UCLA
Located within Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Westwood, Mattel Children’s Hospital UCLA includes a 90-bed inpatient unit that is counted among the medical center's total of 520 beds, and an outpatient Children's Health Center. The hospital serves more than 34,000 patients each year. The National Association of Children’s Hospitals and Related Institutions accredited Mattel Children’s Hospital UCLA in September 1995 as a hospital within a hospital. Prior to the association’s designation, and since 1950, the hospital was known as the Department of Pediatrics at UCLA Medical Center.
In 2008, Mattel Children’s Hospital will move into the Westwood replacement hospital along with the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center and the Stewart and Lynda Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital at UCLA.
UCLA Medical Plaza, adjacent to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Westwood, offers convenient access to a wide range of outpatient services, including more than 80 specialty clinics.
100 Medical Plaza: The 140,000-square-foot medical office building provides office space for approximately 100 physicians. About half are full-time faculty and half are volunteer clinical faculty of the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. A private firm owns and operates the building under a unique long-term ground lease from the Regents of the University of California.
Peter Morton Medical Building (200 Medical Plaza): The six-story, 380,000-square-foot ambulatory care center houses a number of UCLA Medical Center's outpatient services, including the Family Health Center with primary care for routine illnesses, the Children's Health Center and Internal Medicine clinics. The building’s Surgery Center enables patients to undergo many types of procedures and return home the same day.
300 Medical Plaza: The 104,000-square-foot building on the southern end of UCLA Medical Plaza accommodates outpatient, training and research programs of the Stewart and Lynda Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital at UCLA and the Jane and Terry Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior. The building also houses the UCLA Medical Center rehabilitation program.
UCLA Medical Group
UCLA Medical Group is composed primarily of UCLA faculty physicians of the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. Organized in 1987, UCLA Medical Group provides services to health plan members in most major health maintenance organizations (HMOs) and Medicare Advantage plans, as well as to patients enrolled in preferred provider organizations (PPOs), Medicare, state-sponsored and indemnity insurance plans, or those seen by referral.
