Email

Nonprescription products such as dietary supplements and beauty products may be sold in UCLA outpatient clinics.

We recommend the following in connection with any such sales:

1. DISPLAY: Products and any promotional materials relating to such products should only be displayed in public waiting areas.

2. DISCLAIMER: A disclaimer should be placed in the display area stating "UCLA obtains a financial benefit from the sale of these products."

3. NO VERBAL PROMOTION: If a patient asks a question about displayed products, the physician should give an objective response and state that other options are available to the patient.  Physicians should not promote the products to their patients

4. ACCOUNTING: Sales of such products may be considered taxable and should be accounted for in accordance with University tax policies.
