UCLA's Division of Pediatric Cardiology provides comprehensive evaluation and management for patients with a wide range of congenital and acquired heart disease. Care is provided to patients from fetal life through adolescence and extends to the care of adults with congenital heart disease.
Pediatric cardiologists work as a team with cardiothoracic surgeons and cardiovascular nurse specialists to provide preoperative diagnosis, intraoperative management, and postoperative care. Advanced non-invasive diagnostic techniques are used to minimize the need for cardiac catheterization. Catheter-directed treatment is used when appropriately indicated. Surgical interventions are designed to provide the earliest complete repair at the lowest risk and cost. In addition, particular attention is paid to the psychosocial needs of children and their families. This collaborative approach results in clinical outcomes that are among the best reported in the world.
