UCLA geriatricians are specialists in the managing of the overall health of people age 65 and older and treating the medical disorders that frequently affect the elderly, including falls and immobility, urinary incontinence (lack of bladder control), memory loss and dementia, arthritis, high blood pressure, heart disease, osteoporosis and diabetes.
As a result of their specialized training, geriatricians can knowledgably consider and address a broad spectrum of health-related factors – including medical, psychological and social – when treating their patients.
The UCLA Division of Geriatrics offers comprehensive outpatient and inpatient services at several convenient locations, and works closely with other UCLA programs that strive to improve or maintain the quality of life of seniors. Primary and consultative care is offered at 200 UCLA Medical Plaza on the Westwood campus and at 1245 16th Street in Santa Monica.
In addition, UCLA geriatricians provide inpatient and post-hospital services for their patients, including:
- Hospital care on a dedicated geriatric-medicine service at UCLA Medical Center, Santa Monica
- Consultative care for persons hospitalized at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Westwood
- Post-hospital care at rehabilitation facilities in West Los Angeles and Santa Monica
- Primary care at nursing homes in West Los Angeles and Santa Monica
UCLA Geriatrics accepts traditional fee-for-service Medicare, and has limited participation in some Medicare Advantage health plans.
