The Gynecologic Oncology Service provides comprehensive care for women with gynecologic neoplasms, including the surgical management of patients with cancer and preinvasive disease of the female genital tract, as well as the administration of chemotherapy and immunotherapy, and the coordination of radiation treatments. Patients suitable for referral include those with cancers of the ovary, endometrium, vulva, vagina, cervix, and uncommon pelvic tumors such as sarcomas and gestational trophoblastic disease.
Patients may be referred for all types of medical and surgical management of these diseases, including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, staging operations, cytoreductive surgery, second-look surgery, reconstructive surgery of the vagina and vulva, and consultation in difficult cases.
Special programs include intraperitoneal therapies and new drugs available through the National Cancer Institute and the Gynecologic Oncology Group.
