The Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at Mattel Children's Hospital UCLA is a pioneer in the treatment of childhood cancers and part of the Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center, well known for its new and innovative ways of treating patients. It has a long history of success in bringing hope to patients with programs such as our Bone Marrow Transplant Unit, which has been in continuous operation since 1973, the oldest unit in California, and one of the first in the nation.
For more than 40 years, we have provided our patients with the best in care and have made seminal contributions to improving treatment of children with leukemia, aplastic anemia, solid tumors, blood diseases, and various genetic disorders.
We are finding new ways to improve survival rates and decrease complications in children undergoing bone marrow transplantation. With the support of our multidisciplinary team, including Child Life/Child Development Services and social work, our efforts continue to improve significantly the quality of life and quality of care for children with cancer and blood disorders.
Each year, we see an increasing number of young cancer survivors as a result of ongoing research and innovative cancer treatments performed by our physicians and faculty in the Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology. These advancements are made possible by our donors, who are truly dedicated to making a difference.
Those of us who work in the Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at Mattel Children's Hospital UCLA wholeheartedly believe that each child is precious and should be able to experience the joys of childhood, not forced to confront illness, pain, disability, and mortality. Improving our patients' quality of life is what motivates us to solve the mysteries of pediatric cancers and blood disorders.
