The UCLA Pediatric OCD Intensive Outpatient Program, which treats youths ages 8 to 17, is the only hospital-based pediatric OCD program in the Los Angeles area and one of only a handful in the nation. The treatment team aims to create an environment that feels safe, friendly and fun for the children and adolescents. The program uses Exposure and Response Prevention, a specialized form of cognitive behavioral therapy, as its primary mode of intervention. In group and individual sessions, patients are gradually exposed to feared objects or thoughts and are encouraged to resist engaging in compulsive responses.
