The Department of RadiologyCross Sectional Interventional Radiology |
Cross Sectional Interventional Radiology (CSIR) provides cross-sectional imaging (ultrasound, CT, MRI) guided interventions, primarily biopsies, drainages, and targeted tumor ablations. What set our service apart from most is that these procedures are performed primarily by sub-specialized faculty in Abdominal, Thoracic, Musculoskeletal, and Pediatric radiology, who are world-renowned leaders in both subspecialty imaging and interventional radiology. Our faculty has pioneered and helped develop the discipline of image-guided tumor ablative therapy not only in the United States but also on the world stage.
This tumor ablation program has now performed over 1,000 ablative procedures, treating liver, renal, lung, and musculoskeletal malignancies, and representing one of the largest in the country. As the field of medical oncology expands with necessary sub-specialization into organ specific oncologic specialties, the CSIR service is already providing parallel subspecialty imaging and interventional expertise. In a large part due to the rapidly growing applications of ablative techniques for cancer treatment, a new field of Interventional Oncology is being advanced worldwide, and our faculty is helping to shape the future of this new discipline.
