The Department of RadiologyNeuroradiology |
The Neuroradiology subspecialty supervises and interprets CT and MRI scans relating to the brain, orbits, and spine. Radiologists in this subspecialty perform a variety of diagnostic procedures, including magnetic resonance angiography, 3-D rendering of scan images, cerebral angiography, myelography, CT-myelography, spine biopsies, nerve blocks, facet joint injections, and discograms. These neuroradiologists also perform therapeutic procedures, including percutaneous lumbar discectomies.
The Head and Neck radiologists investigate, with extensive use of MR and CT scanning, the complex tumors and other pathologies of the head and neck, working closely with head and neck surgeons, neurosurgeons, and other related physicians. This subspecialty has also developed a technique that is now widely used as a substitute for more traumatic and expensive surgical biopsies. The Neurosciences Imaging and Development subspecialty develops and applies advanced technology including MR spectroscopy, angiography, perfusion imaging, fluoroscopy, ultrafast scanning and specialized contrast agents to evaluate the central nervous system and related areas for diagnosis and treatment. Integration, registration, segmentation, and 3-D rendering of neuroimaging studies are also performed for treatment planning. This is all combined in the interventional MRI program, where MR studies are used to guide minimally invasive interventional diagnosis and treatment.
