The Department of NeurosurgerySpinal Disorders Programs |
The Spinal Disorders Programs include the UCLA Comprehensive Spine Center, Stereotactic Radiosurgery Program, and Neuroendoscopy Program.
The UCLA Comprehensive Spine Center
In addition to our comprehensive clinical treatment of patients with all spinal disorders, we are dedicated to advancement in the research arena and strive to be on the cutting edge in all areas of research studying spinal disorders. The physicians, surgeons, and non-operative care personnel work closely with dedicated scientists in many areas of clinical and basic science research.
Stereotactic Radiosurgery Program
The UCLA Stereotactic Radiosurgery Program is collaborative practice with special expertise in brain and spine imaging, dosimetry and radiation therapy. The program coordinates individual care through a multidisciplinary approach involving specialists in radiation oncology, neurosurgery, neurology, neuro-ophthalmology and neuroradiology. The procedure allows high focal radiation to be delivered to the lesion without damaging vital areas of the brain and spine. Stereotactic radiosurgery is a noninvasive, outpatient operation that offers treatment possibility for patients with arteriovenous malformations (AVMs), benign brain tumors, skull base tumors, pituitary tumors, primary malignant brain tumors, metastatic brain tumors, spinal tumors, spinal radiosurgery now being performed and selected patients with intractable pain. Thousands of patients throughout the world have been treated by radiosurgery with good results and a very low rate of complication.

Neuroendoscopy Program
The UCLA neuroendoscopy team has treated hundreds of patients since 1993 using this technique. The neuroendoscope can be used to perform the entire operation, often through a small hole less than the size of a dime, or in combination with the surgical microscope (endoscope-assisted).
