Dr. Shafa is a board eligible neurosurgeon, specializing in the surgical treatment of pituitary tumors as well as degenerative and traumatic spine disorders. Dr. Shafa also has a special interest in management of traumatic brain injury. His clinical interests also include surgical treatment of malignant and benign brain tumors, hemorrhagic stroke and stroke related conditions as well as general neurosurgery.
After completing his undergraduate studies at UCLA, he received his medical degree from University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, which is consistently ranked among the top five medical schools in the nation. Dr. Shafa then attended UCLA Geffen School of Medicine for his internship in General Surgery and completed his residency in Neurological Surgery at Loma Linda University. As part of his training, Dr. Shafa has also completed a fellowship at the Swedish Neuroscience Institute in complex as well as minimally invasive Spine surgery and has further pursued his interest in surgical management of pituitary tumors, working with nationally recognized experts in the field.
Dr. Shafa is actively involved in advancing the treatment and research of pituitary tumors and spinal disorders and is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and the Congress of Neurological Surgeons as well as the North American Spine Society.
