Irene Wu, MD holds a BS in Biological Sciences and a BA in Economics from Stanford University. She received an MD from Chicago Medical School, after which she returned to UCLA for residency in Anesthesiology. After residency, she stayed at UCLA where she completed fellowship in Pain Medicine. She is currently Assistant Director at the UCLA Pain Management Center, and Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology. She is board-certified in Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine.

Dr. Wu has authored abstracts and presented at multiple national meetings, including the American Society for Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine meeting in November 2009, where she presented her research on Botox and Cervical Myofascial Pain with Dr. Andrea Nicol and Dr. F. Michael Ferrante. She has delivered presentations on multiple topics including lumbar and cervical spine pain, intrathecal infusion pumps, spinal cord stimulation, complex regional pain syndrome, and cancer pain management.

Dr. Wu continues to be an active member in multiple national organizations including American Society of Anesthesiology and American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine. She is also active in teaching of residents and fellows, and served as the Associate Coordinator of the Western Anesthesia Resident’s Conference 2012 sponsored at UCLA. She currently serves as the Chair of the Pain Medicine Clinical Competence Committee for the American Board of Anesthesiology.

Outside of the hospital, Dr. Wu continues to increase public awareness in chronic pain management with recent appearances on CNN.
