Dr. Abtin’s interests principally lie in management of lung cancer and chest neoplasms including mesothelioma. Currently, he is focusing on the use of non surgical minimally invasive imaging guided Heat (Radiofrequency or Microwave ablation) and Cryo ablation (Ice) techniques in management of cancer. In this regard his research interests include development of multidisciplinary approach for synergistic and optimal response to therapy, including combination of ablation and radiation therapy.
Dr. Abtin is also closely involved with Thoracic Radiology Imaging Laboratories (THRIL) on multiple projects, aiming to develop imaging biomarkers, aiding in detection and quantitation of disease and planning optimal therapy, particularly with scleroderma and emphysema.
