Research Interest
Dr. Karam’s research interests include robotic surgery for benign and malignant gynecologic conditions, the application of sentinel-node biopsy technique in patients with breast and gynecologic cancer and the care and outcomes for patients with hereditary breast and ovarian cancer syndromes.
Additional Information
Dr. Amer Karam is a gynecologic and surgical oncologist who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with gynecologic and/or breast cancer. Dr. Karam returned to UCLA after completing his training in breast surgery at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York and gynecologic oncology at UCLA and Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.

Dr. Karam offers many treatment options for the surgical treatment of gynecologic malignancies including: radical ovarian cancer surgery and the latest advances in minimally invasive surgery and robotic surgery and their application in the treatment of complex benign gynecologic conditions such as uterine fibroids and endometriosis. He is also uniquely qualified to treat and diagnose patients with hereditary breast and/or ovarian cancer as well as patients at high risk of developing breast cancer and offers many options for the treatment of patients with breast cancer including: sentinel lymph node biopsy, breast conserving surgery as well as skin and nipple-sparing mastectomy.
