About Us / It Begins with U

Best in the West and No. 3 in the Nation

Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center ranks as one of the top three American hospitals - and the best hospital in the western United States for the 20th consecutive year - according to a U.S.News & World Report survey that reviewed patient-outcomes data, reputation among physicians and other care-related factors.

The rankings are currently available online at www.usnews.com/besthospitals.

Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center is also the only hospital in Los Angeles and the Southern California region that appears on the honor roll.

Nationally, UCLA ranked in the top 20 in 15 of the 16 specialty areas.

UCLA Continues to Achieve High Patient Satisfaction Scores

When survey firm NRC Picker published its most recent consumer assessment data, the results were both stunning and unsurprising. Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center is now ranked in the 96th percentile of more than 6,000 hospitals across the nation. This is a stunningly good result, but at the same time it is unsurprising given UCLA’s steady and dramatic improvement in these rankings in recent years. Less than three years ago, the Westwood hospital occupied the 38th percentile. By the time of the move to the new hospital, it had climbed to the 75th.

The NRC Picker survey asks patients to rate caregiver behaviors that help determine the quality of the care environment.

In addition to an overall ranking for Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in the 96th percentile, some units ranked in the 99th percentile. Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center and Orthopaedic Hospital had a number of well-ranked units, including the Emergency Department and Labor and Delivery, both of which ranked above the 90th percentile. Outpatient services and Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital ranked high as well.

Services in Santa Monica Continue to Expand

With the exception of organ transplantation, all of the services offered at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in Westwood are now available at Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center and Orthopaedic Hospital. Some services — including geriatrics, general surgery, orthopaedic/spine surgery, cardiology, neurology, radiology and pain management — have been offered at the Santa Monica campus of UCLA Health System for several years. New UCLA services at Santa Monica include general medicine, general pediatrics, advanced gastroenterology endoscopy (including ERCP and endoscopic ultrasound), oncology services, and specialty surgical services such as cardiothoracic, breast, colorectal, and head and neck.

Whether patients are treated at UCLA Health System’s community clinics or hospitals in Westwood or Santa Monica, they receive the same exceptional care and compassion for which UCLA is known. Earlier this year, a nationally known rating agency for hospital quality named the Santa Monica facility a “distinguished hospital for clinical excellence.”

Major renovation is underway at our Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center and Orthopaedic Hospital, which is scheduled for completion by the end of 2010.
