The Department of Surgery provides consultative and definitive care services on both an inpatient and outpatient basis in Cardiothoracic Surgery, General Surgery, Head and Neck Surgery, Liver and Pancreas Transplantation, Neurosurgery, Pediatric Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Podiatric Surgery, Surgical Oncology, and Vascular Surgery. The patient referral procedure in each surgical specialty is designated in the following pages. General inquiries may be directed to the department office or to any of the division offices.
Emergency surgical care is available 24 hours a day and may be arranged with the needed specialist directly or through the Emergency Medicine Center, where all surgical services have an emergency on-call roster available. Ambulatory care is provided in a variety of divisional locations in 200 and 300 UCLA Medical Plaza and within the Medical Center. Appointments may be scheduled directly with each division.
Families of patients who are undergoing surgery in the Medical Center's Main Operating Room may wait in the Surgical Waiting Area in the main lobby on the first floor of the hospital, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. A volunteer coordinates communication between physicians and families via direct-line access to the recovery room and a house telephone.
