The Department of MedicineDivision of Infectious DiseasesUCLA Program in Global Health (PGH) |
Program for Gloab Health (PGH) partners with academic institutions in developing countries to advance prevention, policy, and clinical research for HIV/AIDS and other diseases in all regions of the world. We work with developing-country partners to integrate treatment and prevention of HIV, implement innovative prevention programs, stimulate the enactment of beneficial policies and laws, address gender inequity, and train the next generation of U.S. and developing-country scientists and advocates to continue this essential work.
PGH's efforts focus on four key areas:
Science: Conducting scientific investigations to lead to improved understanding of epidemics, and better strategies for preventing and treating disease that will be maximally effective in developing-country settings.
Policy: Engaging in policy research and advocacy to ensure that societies identify and address underlying social and economic issues such as unequal education and economic opportunities for women, barriers to implementation of effective prevention programs, lack of access to prevention services, and inadequate international financing of HIV/AIDS programs in the developing world.
Training: Building capacity, by training professionals in the U.S. and in developing countries to conduct scientific investigations, provide clinical care and prevention services, and engage in policy research and advocacy; and by working to build the capacity of local institutions to continue that work.
Dissemination: Providing information through a variety of professional journals and lay publications to ensure that our findings get used.
