The UCLA Pulmonary Function Laboratories include both inpatient and outpatient facilities offering comprehensive pulmonary function testing including routing spirometry, lung volumes, diffusion capacity, and arterial blood gases; bronchoprovocation studies for suspected asthma; testing for supplemental oxygen needs; comprehensive exercise testing for dyspnea evaluation; hypoxia-altitude simulation testing for air-travel-related hypoxemia; control of breathing evaluation; and specialized testing for neuromuscular and related problems.
In addition, the laboratory offers indirect calorimetry useful in assessing metabolic rate and adjusting nutritional support. Faculty from the Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Division are available to help in the selection of appropriate pulmonary function testing and interpreting the results of these studies.
