The Eye Trauma and Emergency Center provides immediate response to ophthalmic emergencies such as:
- acute orbital hypertension,
- hyphema,
- temporal arteritis,
- acute angle-closure glaucoma,
- central or branch retinal artery occlusion,
- retinal detachment,
- chemical burns of the cornea and conjunctiva,
- intraocular foreign bodies,
- acute vitreous hemorrhage,
- ruptured globe,
- other trauma to the eye.
The eye trauma unit is staffed 24 hours a day by attending UCLA faculty ophthalmologists. They are supported by ophthalmic fellows and residents who are available for initial patient evaluation and surgical assisting. The eye trauma team is able to rapidly mobilize all necessary medical, surgical, and consultative services.
