The Department of PediatricsDivision of Pediatric GastroenterologyLiver Transplantation/Evaluation Clinic |
The Pediatric Liver Transplant Program offers consultation, evaluation and treatment for children in liver failure who may require transplantation. Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center is the second largest facility in the country performing liver transplantation. A cohesive multi-disciplinary team approach is utilized by our pediatric gastroenterologists and liver transplant surgeons, with consultation from a full range of pediatric sub-specialties for pre and post-transplant conditions.
The evaluation for non-emergent transplantation is performed on an outpatient basis. Prior to evaluation, a telephone consultation with the referring physician is conducted. The pediatric gastroenterologist, a transplant surgeon, a nurse coordinator and a social worker are all involved in the evaluation.
Any child requiring evaluation for a liver transplant must be referred by their current treating physician. Complete medical records must be forwarded to the Program physician/nurse coordinators prior to making an appointment in the Liver Transplantation/Evaluation Clinic.
