Consultation and Evaluation Service

This service is the "front door" to the Stewart and Lynda Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital at UCLA.

Patients needing urgent evaluation that cannot be provided in the outpatient clinics may be seen by the faculty and staff of the service for rapid evaluation and admission to one of the NPH programs. These evaluations may be performed in the Consultation and Evaluation Service, the Emergency Medicine Center, or other sites in the Medical Center. Under some circumstances, the service can arrange for emergency evaluations in the community. The psychiatric consultation faculty evaluate and provide brief treatment to adult physically ill inpatients in the UCLA Medical Center who suffer psychological and psychiatric complications of their medical illnesses.

The faculty of the service specialize in providing psychiatric services to many specialized programs in the Medical Center, including the organ transplant programs. Treatment may be provided to these and other patients throughout their course of treatment in the Medical Center, when their physicians believe that psychiatric or psychological factors may be contributing to or resulting from their physical illness.
