The Borderline Personality Disorder Initiative (BPDI) at the Semel Institute at UCLA is dedicated to the treatment of borderline personality disorder and to the education of clinicians in evidence-based treatment methods for this disorder.
Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) is a serious psychiatric illness characterized by dysfunction in the regulation of emotion, behavior, relationships, thinking and one’s sense of self. BPD appears prevalent in around 2% of the general population.
BPDI currently offers a one year treatment program based on the Mentalization-Based Treatment Model developed by Bateman and Fonagy. In the summer of 2009, BPDI will also offer a DBT based skills training group in conjunction with private therapists in the community who are certified in DBT.
