The Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral SciencesDivision of Child and Adolescent PsychiatryChild/Adolescent Partial Hospitalization Program |
The Child and Adolescent Partial Hospitalization Program is an intensive psychiatric day-treatment program. It is designed to evaluate and treat children and adolescents whose psychiatric and behavioral symptoms are too severe to be managed in outpatient therapy alone, but do not require a 24-hour controlled environment. The program is also used as a transition from care in inpatient units.
The program operates from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., five days a week, year round. Individualized treatment programs addressing behavior, psychiatric symptoms and goals are developed for each patient. The interdisciplinary faculty and staff of psychiatrists, social workers, nurses, special educators, and rehabilitation therapists provide a variety of group psychotherapy. Family issues are intensively addressed. Medication management is also available.
Adolescent patients with substance abuse problems may also participate in individual and group treatments while they are in the Partial Hospitalization Program. After-care treatment in the group is also available. Lunch and snacks are provided daily. Transportation may be arranged for most patients.
