Living with Heart Disease

More than 80 million Americans live every day with one or more cardiovascular diseases, including high blood pressure, coronary heart disease, heart failure and stroke.  These and other heart-related conditions cause nearly one in every three deaths in the United States each year.  With appropriate treatment and lifestyle changes, however, people affected by heart disease are surviving longer and enjoying a better quality of life than ever before.

UCLA Cardiovascular CenterAt UCLA, adult and pediatric cardiologists work collaboratively with cardiothoracic surgeons to develop heart disease management strategies distinctively tailored for each patient.  UCLA's specialists possess a depth and breadth of experience that enables them to offer heart disease patients of all ages and conditions a full spectrum of evaluation and treatment options and to achieve exceptional outcomes in cases ranging from the relatively routine to the unusually complex.  In addition, UCLA's position as a leading center of patient care and treatment innovation makes it possible for patients to benefit from an impressive range of leading-edge tools and technology and to have access to therapies often available at only a handful of top heart centers in the nation.

The UCLA Children's Heart Center provides world-class medical care in a warm and caring environment for all children with known or suspected heart disease - beginning with prenatal care, continuing through infancy, childhood and adolescence, and transitioning into adulthood. The center includes a friendly waiting room and play area, five examination rooms, a dedicated counseling room, a state-of-the art maternal-fetal suite, and an exercise/autonomic testing and device area. A renowned team of specialists in fetal and pediatric cardiology provides comprehensive outpatient diagnostic testing and consultation in one convenient location.

Located steps away from the nationally acclaimed Mattel Children's Hospital UCLA and the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, the center cares for children of all ages with any kind of heart disease, from common and benign heart conditions to the most complex congenital heart defects.
