Additional Information
With a research focus on ion channel biophysics, Dr. Thao P Nguyen received both of her graduate and medical degrees from the Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP) at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. Upon completion of her internal medicine training in the Osler Medical Service of the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions, she pursued dual cardiology and postdoctoral basic science research fellowship in the Specialty Training and Advanced Research (STAR) Program at UCLA. She then joined the Division of Cardiology Faculty at the David Geffen School of Medicine.

Enhancing her primary clinical interest in cardiac intensive care, her research focuses on cardiac electrophysiology, arrhythmias, fibrosis, and gene therapy. She is an active member of an interdisciplinary group of cardiovascular scientists led by Dr. James N Weiss, Chief of Cardiology, combining mathematical and experimental biology. She holds several memberships in several professional organizations, including the American Heart Association, the Heart Rhythm Society, the Cardiac Electrophysiology Society, and the Biophysical Society, where she serves in the organizing committee on Professional Opportunities for Women.
