Dr. Allen Chen is an Associate Professor, Vice Chair of Education, and residency training program director at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. Dr. Chen was recruited to UCLA from UC Davis where he served as residency program director and co-chair of research strategy. He earned his medical degree from Yale University and completed residency training at the University of Texas-M.D. Anderson Cancer Center and the University of California, San Francisco.

Dr. Chen has published more than 100 original peer-reviewed articles and has an international reputation in the treatment of head and neck cancer. His research on the application of advanced technologies to optimize outcomes and quality of life has helped shape current practice guidelines for head and neck cancer, and he is a frequently invited speaker at conferences throughout the world. His pioneering work on the radiation sensitivity of the brachial plexus earned him the prestigious Simon Kramer award from the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG) in 2009, and his classic publication on this subject was recently ranked number 1 as the "10 most downloaded articles of 2012" from the International Journal of Radiation Oncology, Biology, Physics.

Dr. Chen currently serves on the scientific program committee for the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO), acts as reviewer for over 20 cancer-related journals, and sits on the editorial board for Head and Neck. He is a leader in clinical trial consortiums including the RTOG and the Southwestern Oncology Group (SWOG) and serves as principle investigator for several key ongoing multi-institutional studies. Dr. Chen also has a special interest in medical education and leadership development. He has received numerous commendations for his mentorship, innovative teaching methods, and efforts to promote wellness among medical students and residents.
