Deborah Kado, MD, MS is Associate Professor in the Departments of Orthopaedic Surgery and Medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. She is a specialist in the fields of geriatric and internal medicine with an emphasis on the evaluation and treatment of osteoporosis. Dr. Kado is a native of Northern California. For her undergraduate education, she attended Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania, followed by medical school at Cornell University Medical College where she graduated with a M.D. degree and went on to complete her residency training in internal medicine at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center.
After staying on at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center for an additional two years, first as chief medical resident and then clinical instructor, Dr. Kado completed an additional four years of fellowship training, first specializing in clinical epidemiological research on osteoporosis at UCSF, then obtaining a Masters of Science Degree in Epidemiology at the UCLA School of Public Health, followed by a final year of clinical training in geriatrics at UCLA. Since joining the faculty in the School of Medicine in 2000, her primary research interests have focused on the understanding the pathogenesis and adverse health outcomes associated with age-related changes in spinal posture. She is a successfully funded NIH researcher who has first authored multiple publications on the epidemiology of hyperkyphosis (known commonly as the dowager's hump), and is internationally recognized in her field of expertise.
Dr. Kado sees patients at UCLA Medical Center in Westwood for geriatric specialty care and at the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery Osteoporosis and Metabolic Bone Disease Center located in Santa Monica across the street from the Santa Monica UCLA Medical Center and Orthopaedic Hospital.
