Dr. Hamilton’s clinical interests include new keratorefractive surgical technologies, phakic intraocular lenses, accommodative intraocular lenses and applications of wavefront technology.
D. Rex Hamilton, MD, is Director of the UCLA Laser Refractive Center and Assistant Professor in the Cornea–External Ocular Disease & Uveitis Division at UCLA. He is highly trained in laser vision correction and has extensive experience working with the latest techniques. A board-certified ophthalmologist, Dr. Hamilton received his doctor of medicine degree at the University of California, Irvine, where he graduated at the top of his class. He began performing refractive surgery during residency training at the Jules Stein Eye Institute. He then completed a one-year fellowship in refractive, cornea, anterior segment, cataract and glaucoma surgery at Minnesota Eye Consultants under the directorship of Dr. Richard Lindstrom.
He is actively involved in research and has authored numerous journal articles and book chapters. Recognized for his contributions to the field, he was elected to Marquis Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare, 4th Edition and Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, 7th Edition. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and the International Society of Refractive Surgery.
