Dogs Help Hospitalized Patients to Heal

Program Supported Through Partnership for Care

UCLA People-Animal ConnectionAt UCLA, People-Animal Connection (PAC) volunteer canine teams visit more than 700 hospitalized patients a year. These patient visits are more than numbers - they represent unique interactions between PAC teams and critically ill children and adults. Medical research has shown that pet therapy brings about physiological signs of relaxation, such as decreased blood pressure, heart rate and respiratory rate. As the mother of a 10-year-old girl who had been in a five-day coma reflected: "My daughter woke up from her coma just after (the volunteer) and Apollo left her room. This is a miracle!"
