UCLA Performs 2,000th Heart Transplant

The UCLA Heart Transplant Program is now the second program in the world and the first in the western United States to have performed 2,000 heart transplants. The landmark surgery was performed on a 59-year-old Riverside man who suffered from advanced dilated cardiomyopathy with secondary pulmonary hypertension. He received his new heart on June 4, in a four-hour surgery at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, led by Reshma Biniwale, M.D.
