UCLA Receives Heart Attack Designation from L.A. County

The UCLA emergency departments in both Westwood and Santa Monica have been designated special receiving centers for patients suffering from a common type of heart attack known as ST-elevation myocardial infarction, or STEMI. The certification from the L.A. County Health Department means that when paramedics identify heart attack patients through a field electrocardiogram (EKG), they will bring those patients directly to UCLA facilities to open a blocked artery within 90 minutes of the first EKG.
