The UCLA Pediatric Thyroid Program

Did you know that the thyroid gland affects the whole body?  Thyroid disorders often involve a complex, delicate web of many body parts and hormones.  At UCLA, we use a team approach to help treat your child.

We are delighted to evaluate and treat problems with over- and under-active thyroid (hyper- and hypo-thyroidism) from birth to adulthood.  In addition we have expertise in unraveling the significance abnormal endocrine tests of all kinds.

If you child has been recently diagnosed with a thyroid nodule(s), we are the center of choice on the West Coast and one of only four in the nation.  Long-term outcome and success are HIGHLY dependent on the initial evaluation and treatment.  In fact these outcomes and success are DIRECTLY linked to assessment and management at a high volume thyroid center with expert specialists and surgeons.

Our multiple board-certified endocrinologists, specially-dedicated endocrine surgeons, and nuclear medicine, radiology, and pathology specialists are ready to work closely together for your needs.   Our pediatric endocrinology division is at the forefront of endocrine technology, utilizing state-of-the-art ultrasounds for the evaluation and biopsy of thyroid nodules.  Many thyroid nodules are not a problem, and the proper evaluation of these thyroid issues is important to allow these to be followed without surgery.  For those thyroid nodules that need to be removed, such as those that are cancer, our specially-trained surgical team deals specifically with endocrine organs (such as thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal, and pancreas) and offers a wealth of experience that only UCLA can offer.

We understand how the thyroid works because of the many contributions to medical science by experts at UCLA.  Let us help you use our skills and knowledge to optimally care for your child.  Please visit us in sunny California on the West side of Los Angeles.
