Inpatient Child and Adolescent Service

Hospitalization is provided for children and adolescents who require intensive diagnostic evaluation or treatment in an inpatient setting due to behaviors that cannot be managed at home, in the school, or in the community, or who are a potential danger to themselves or others.

Two units, 2-South and 2-West, serve adolescents 12 through 18 years old. Unit 2-South specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of adolescents with developmental, neurological and/or medical conditions in addition to a psychiatric problem. Unit 2-West has specialty programs in eating disorders and mood disorders in addition to treating other psychiatric problems of adolescence. Unit 5-West treats children 2 through 11 years old.

In addition to the overall program, specialty programs are available for autism and related disabilities, and mood disorders. All three units are staffed by child psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, social workers, occupational and recreational therapists, special educators, speech and language specialists, and consulting professionals such as nutritionists and dentists.

Treatment includes individual, group, and family therapy; behavior modification; pharmacotherapy; occupational and recreational therapy; education programs; and a therapeutic milieu. An individualized treatment plan is designed to meet the specific needs of each child and family.
