Geriatric Psychiatric Inpatient Unit

The Division of Geriatric Psychiatry Inpatient Program provides intensive evaluation and differential diagnosis of acute emotional and behavioral problems such as mood disorders, dementia, and psychoses.

The program's experienced interdisciplinary treatment team provides an assessment of the biological and psychosocial components of an older adult's illness, and a definitive diagnosis and treatment plan, including:

  • Specialized medical evaluation,
  • Psychosocial assessment and intervention,
  • Assessment of daily living skills,
  • Neuropsychological assessment,
  • Treatment of associated medical conditions,
  • Brief family intervention and 
  • Medication and electroconvulsive therapy, when indicated.

Family members are encouraged to participate in treatment and discharge planning. Assistance with placement is a part of each treatment plan.
