Hydrocephalus Program

The UCLA Hydrocephalus Program offers comprehensive diagnostic and state-of-the-art treatment options for patients with hydrocephalus. Our physicians are recognized experts in the diagnosis and treatment of normal pressure hydrocephalus. To better serve our patients, patients can be evaluated at either UCLA Medical Center in Westwood or Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Torrance. The Adult Hydrocephalus Center at UCLA was one of the first established in the United States, and is a national and international referral center. Infants and young children with hydrocephalus are treated by the UCLA Pediatric Neurosurgery Program.

Diagnostic evaluation for normal pressure hydrocephalus: Our Program uses a multidisciplinary team approach, with experts in both neurology and neurosurgery. Evaluation of complex hydrocephalus: When necessary, we have extensive experience with continuous intracranial pressure monitoring and advanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) imaging techniques. Advanced diagnostic neuroradiology: State-of-the-art MRI and computed tomography (CT) are available. This includes the use of powerful 3 Tesla MRI scanners when appropriate.
