Information Desk
The Information Desk or Security desk can help visitors find room location or other hosptial services. Both desks are located on the first floor of the hospital near the Main Entrance. You can call the Information Desk at (310) 319-4000.

Visiting Hours and GuidelinesVisitors can be good medicine for patients, and we encourage both family members and friends to visit. However, patient well-being remains our primary focus. To ensure quality care for all patients, general visiting guidelines have been established for our hospital. Please review the following guidelines and share them with family members and friends.
- The number of visitors allowed at any time depends on patient needs and space accommodations.
- Visitors may not smoke in patient rooms or anywhere else in our hospital. The designated smoking area is located north of the circular driveway entrance at 1250 16th St. Please ask our Security or Information Desk staffs for directions to this area.
- Visitors must dress appropriately and wear shoes.
- Patient requests that visitors be restricted shall be honored and a "No Visitors Allowed" sign may be placed on the door.
- People with colds, sore throats or any contagious diseases should not visit patients.
- Visitors may be asked to leave the room during tests or treatments or when the doctor or nurse needs to see the patient.
- Children under age 14 must be accompanied by a responsible adult when visiting patients or waiting in a hospital lounge.
- Animals are not permitted on the nursing units, with the exception of seeing-eye dogs and SM-UCLA pet-therapy dogs.
- Visitors are prohibited from bringing medication, alcohol, weapons and/or any potentially dangerous or harmful substances into our hospital.
Some specialized hospital units may have regulations beyond these general guidelines.
Condition Reports
Any information about your diagnosis and treatment must come from your physician. This information will be regarded as confidential and given only to family members designated by you.
Gifts for Patients
Visitors should check with your nurse or at the nursing station before bringing flowers or food and drinks inside your room. Flowers are not permitted in our Critical Care Units.
Waiting Areas
There are designated areas for visitors on each floor and in our two lobbies. Specific waiting areas have been designated for families of patients in Surgery, Critical Care or Outpatient areas. During certain hours, a volunteer is on duty in the Surgery Waiting Room to help keep family members or friends informed about the progress of surgeries.
Out-of-Town Visitors
Several local hotels have offered to provide special rates to the families of our hospitalized patients. Please contact Patient Relations, ext. 94670, (weekdays) or our Nursing Office, ext. 94745, (evenings and weekends) for the names and phone numbers of these hotels.
Gift Shop
Our Gift Shop, staffed by our friendly volunteers, is open daily to serve the needs of our patients and their visitors. The shop has gift items, clothing, jewelry, magazines, greeting cards, candy, toiletries, flowers and plants. The Gift Shop phone number is ext. 94438.
Chapel
Our chapel is located in the Tower lobby off of 15th Street. Visitors of all faiths are welcome to visit our chapel for worship services, prayer and meditation. A visit from our chaplain, one of our chaplaincy volunteers or a community-based clergyperson can be arranged by calling ext. 94740.
Cafeteria
The cafeteria at Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center is open daily from 6:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Visitors are welcome to eat in our cafeteria at any time it is open.
Vending MachinesVending machines for snacks and beverages are available in the Employee and Visitor Lounge, located adjacent to our chapel and cafeteria. Vending machines also are located in several waiting areas. Ask your nurse or another staff member for the nearest location. These machines are accessible at any time.
