Parking is limited near UCLA Medical Center, Santa Monica, especially during our rebuilding project. Consequently, we are providing these parking instructions to help simplify your visits to The BirthPlace. Please read these instructions and refer to the campus map.
Evening, Weekend Tours/Classes
Visitor self-parking is available for $5 on weekdays, beginning at 6:30 p.m., or all day on weekends. Stop at the Security Desk inside our main entrance at 1250 16th St. or our secondary entrance on Arizona Ave. to purchase an access ticket for our hospital parking structure at 1311 16th St. (the main Security desk is open 24 hours; the secondary Security desk is open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily). Security will provide further instructions.
Visitor parking also is available in the privately owned garages at 1245 16th St. and 1260 15th St. Rates and hours of operation are posted at the entrances and available form the attendants. Please note that our Security staff has no after-hours access to the 15th Street garage. Once it closes, you cannot retrieve your car until it reopens.
If you opt for street parking, please carefully read the street signs. The meters are in effect every day, except Sundays, until 6 p.m. Some streets near the hospital are designated for permit parking only.
Valet Parking
Convenient valet parking is available 24 hours on weekdays outside our main entrance, 1250 16th St. Rates are posted and available from the valets.
Expectant moms who drive themselves to non-stress testing (NST) outpatient appointments can valet park at a reduced rate. Ask our valets for more information.
Other Parking Options
Parking is in short supply throughout Santa Monica, including the area near UCLA Medical Center, Santa Monica. There are, however, several parking options available to patients and visitors. These options include:
- 1260 15th St. Medical Building -- Weekdays: 6:30 am to 10 pm; Saturdays: 8 am to 6 pm. Rates posted at entrance.
- 1245 16th St. Medical Building -- Weekdays: 6 am to 10 pm; Saturdays: 8 am to 5 pm. Rates posted at entrance.
- 1311 16th St. Structure -- Weekdays: 6:30 pm to 6 am; Weekends, Holidays: All day. Access tokens available for $5 at our main Security desk at 1250 16th St.
- Metered street parking -- Please carefully read street signs. Meters in effect every day except Sunday.
When You're Ready to Deliver
The BirthPlace provides discounted parking to either the expectant dad or another support person while you're in our hospital. This person must follow these instructions:
1) Park in our Valet Parking zone at our main entrance at 1250 16th St. Tell the valet you're here for a Labor & Delivery admission and leave your keys with him or her. If Valet Parking is closed, stop at our Security Desk to check in and leave your keys.
2) Accompany your partner to our Labor & Delivery Unit. After she is admitted, return to our Security desk to purchase a hangtag for $5. The hangtag is good for a 24-hour period.
3) Pull into the subterranean garage at 1245 16th St. and take a ticket as you enter. Do not lose the ticket. Park on levels P-3 or P-4. Please observe signs, do not park in any spaces marked for Valet Parking and do not block any vehicles, unless no other spaces are available.
4) Walk back to our hospital to return to Labor & Delivery. If your car is blocking another vehicle, stop at our Security desk at the Arizona Ave entrance to leave your keys and the space number.
5) When you are ready to leave the parking structure, sign and return the ticket to the parking-booth attendant at 1245 16th st. and show your "new parent" identification wristband. You must have the wristband to exit without paying the full parking fee. Please see our Security staff if you do not have your wristband.
6) Hangtags are renewable every 24 hours for $5.
Please note that if you're departing before 6 am or after 7 pm or on weekends or holidays when the medical building is closed, you must see our Security staff for an access card to enter the building. You will need to leave photo identification with Security to obtain the access card. Security escorts are available upon request.
Weekly Passes
Family members of pre-term Labor & Delivery patients and NICU babies can purchase weekly parking passes in our Cashiers Office.
DIRECTIONS
From the 10 Freeway West
Exit at Cloverfield Boulevard (north) to Santa Monica Boulevard. Turn left (west) on Santa Monica Boulevard. Turn right (north) on 16th Street to 1250 16th Street. Valet parking is available at our main entrance, and parking garages are located on 15th and 16th Streets.
From the 405 Freeway (San Diego Freeway)
Connect with the 10 Freeway West and follow the directions above or exit Wilshire Boulevard West (from the San Fernando Valley), merge onto Wilshire Boulevard. Turn left (south) on 16th Street to 1250 16th Street. Valet parking is available at our main entrance, and parking garages are located on 15th and 16th Streets.
From Pacific Coast Hwy. southbound, take the California Incline to Ocean Avenue, right (south) to Wilshire Boulevard, left (east) to 16th Street, right (south) to main entrance at 1250 16th Street.
Metro and Santa Monica Blue Bus Lines offer service to Wilshire and Santa Monica Boulevards near the medical center.
