The Pediatric Pain Program at Mattel Children's Hospital UCLA seeks young people aged 14-26 years with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) for a study to examine the potential benefits of an Iyengar Yoga program.

Iyengar yoga heightens perception of bodily motion and positioning by using props to prevent injury, develop strength and balance, and deepen rest and relaxation.

The study involves subjects completing a 6-week course of therapeutic Iyengar yoga designed for young people with IBS.

Participants will also be asked to attend two laboratory sessions at UCLA which will involve completing questionnaires and interviews, participating in lab stress tasks and providing saliva samples.  Each lab session will last approximately three hours.

All yoga classes will be free and UCLA parking expenses will be covered.

The study is funded by the National Institutes of Health/National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine.
