Discussion Groups

The UCLA CARE Center is conducting discussion groups with community members to better understand public opinions of, beliefs about, knowledge of, and interest in various HIV treatment and prevention studies.
Through conversations with community thought leaders like you, we can conduct studies and design informative materials that are most relevant to the individuals and groups our studies are designed to reach.

Prevention Discussion Group

We recently concluded a small discussion group for HIV negative men who have sex with men between the ages of 18-25.  Participants were asked to share their beliefs and attitudes concerning an HIV prevention topic of interest: taking pills that are currently prescribed to treat HIV infection every day as a way to prevent getting HIV (PrEP).  The discussion was focused on knowledge of PrEP; feeling about using PrEP to prevent HIV transmission; how, where, and from whom these services should be available; and ideas about how to communicate with other MSM about this HIV prevention method.  The insights from these discussion groups are being used to design a messaging strategy to maximize recruitment for an upcoming HIV prevention study.
