Welcome to the Ahmanson/UCLA Adult Congenital Heart Disease Center, the first and one of the largest facilities of its kind in the United States. Founded in 1980, the Center is a national and international tertiary care resource that provides services to the growing number of patients with congenital heart disease who reach adulthood.
In addition to its emphasis on the highest quality of patient care, the Center is a major training and research facility, focused on preparing our next generation of adult congenital heart disease healthcare providers and advancing our understanding of the long-term issues and risks confronting adults with congenital heart disease.
The Ahmanson/UCLA Adult Congenital Heart Disease Center provides state of the art care to adult patients with congenital heart disease.

Patient/Family Forum: Farewell to Dr. John Child
On May 24th, 2012 we held a patient/family forum at the Ronald Reagan-UCLA Medical center which was attended by 80 patients and family members. The evening included a panel discussion among 7 patients with tetralogy of Fallot, spotlighting the generational differences in surgical management and prognosis from those who were born in the 1950's to those born in the 1980's. This panel was followed by a presentation of the highlights of John Child's 35 year career at UCLA, including a touching picture montage. The program ended with presentation of a crystal plaque to Dr. Child, with a message of gratitude for 35 years of dedication to the care of adults with congenital heart disease. We adjourned to a cocktail reception, where patients had the opportunity to pay their respects to Dr. Child, as well as interface with the other doctors and nurses from the Center. The Adult Congenital Heart Association (ACHA) had an informational booth, as did the National Marfan Foundation (NMF). A tribute fund in honor of Dr. Child was created to address the highest priorities of the Center, including continuing Dr. Child's legacy of world-class patient care, education, and research. For more information about this event or the tribute fund, please email achdc@mednet.ucla.edu or call (310) 825-2019.

Her heart and liver were failing, too - all adding to the reasons why it was too risky for the 49-year-old to receive the heart-lung transplant she desperately needed to survive. She had been told that she was out of options. Read More » |
