Meet Joey — Retired People Animal Connection Volunteer

Joey

Breed: Golden Retriever
Gender: Male
Age: 12 years old
Human Partner: Jack Barron

PAC Starting Date: June 2000
Years of Service: 13

Hospitals Visited: Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center and UCLA Medical Center, Santa Monica

Areas Served: Cardiac Care Unit, Liver Transplant, Peds, ER

Interesting Facts:  Joey was barely a year old when he passed all of the PAC requirements and started to make visits in the CCU.  We have been involved in Delta Pet Partners for almost ten years.  Joey and I took part in a Cardiac Study in the “CCU” across the street in CHS a few years ago.  This study was presented to the American Heart Association Conference in 2007.  All of the PAC dogs and owners will always take pride in participating in that study which again showed that Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT) can help change the health of patients waiting for heart transplants! Joey is still going strong at 13 years (young)!
