As one of the largest academic medical universities in the country, UCLA sponsors many exceptional training programs including our family medicine residency program which consists of 36 residents.

RESEARCH

The UCLA Department of Family Medicine Research Program has one of the most active family medicine research groups in the country committed to improving the quality of primary care and promoting health in partnership with ethnically diverse communities.

Application

  1. Eligibility and Requirements

    Thank you for your interest in the UCLA Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship! Please note that in order to apply to our program you must be in the final year of residency in emergency medicine, family medicine, internal medicine, or pediatrics.

    The UCLA Sports Medicine Fellowship Program participates in the Primary Care Sports Medicine Specialty Match organized by the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP). Registration with the NRMP is therefore required. To register please call (202) 828-0676 or visit the NRMP website.

    Starting in 2013, the UCLA Sports Medicine Fellowship adopted the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).  Please refer to the ERAS Fellowship Documents Office (EFDO) for details on how to register and complete the application visit their website.

    Please note that should you match with our program, you will be expected to obtain the California medical license by July 1, 2014. Currently, the processing time varies between 6 and 12 months. As such, we highly recommend that you take the USMLE Step 3 prior to the NRMP rank deadline. If you are a foreign medical graduate and do not have a California medical license, please call Alicja Martins, the program coordinator, at (310) 319 4711 for clarification of your eligibility for our program.   2. Application Form and Supplemental Documents

    Your application will be considered complete and will be reviewed when all of the following have been received:

    1. Completed ERAS Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship application
    2. Signed AMSSM Code of Ethics for the Match document (pdf)
    3. A copy of the title page from your publication(s), if applicable
    4. Copy of a current state medical license
    5. Interview Day Preference document

    We will begin reviewing applications on August 15, 2013. The deadline to apply is October 15, 2013. Applications received after this date will not be reviewed.

  3. Interview Day

    Personal interviews will take place on the following days:

    • October 30, 2013
    • November 6, 2013
    • November 13, 2013
    • November 20, 2013
    • December 4, 2013

    Please make sure you specify which date works best for your schedule by completing the Interview Day Preference document.

    Below please find an example of the interview day schedule so that you can plan your visit to Los Angeles accordingly.

    • 7:15 - Meeting with the program’s fellows/departure for the tour of the Santa Monica Sports Medicine Clinic
    • 7:45-8:15 - Tour of the Sports Medicine Clinic
    • 8:45 - Arrival at the Westwood office (breakfast provided)
    • 9:00-12:00 - Individual meetings with faculty and fellows
    • 12:00-1:30 - Sports Medicine Noon Conference (lunch provided)
    • 1:30-2:30 - Tour of Athletic Training Center and Campus
    • 2:30 - Wrap up with Program Director
    • 3:00 - Departure
