Meet the Staff
The volunteer program at UCLA began in 1955, just a few months after the Medical Center officially opened. The program was designed to assist the Medical Center in its threefold mission of patient care, education, and research — and that remains the goal of the program today. The role of the volunteer is not to replace, but to supplement the regular professional staff, freeing them to provide the best medical, nursing and support services to patients.
Volunteers add the extra dimensions of empathy, sensitivity, warmth, and friendliness that ease and brighten a patient’s hospital stay and clinic visit.
UCLA’s volunteers are very special people who choose to share their time and talents helping others. Each volunteer in his or her own way helps enhance the Center’s quality patient care.

Volunteer Services Director- Carey McCarthy Carey has been with volunteer services since 1988. She coordinates special programs in the Medical Center including the Music Enrichment program, Internship program and Ambassador Services. She is also editor of our newsletter. Carey holds a degree in Public Relations and a Masters Health Education. |

Coordinator - Lisa Harden Lisa Formerly worked at Little Company of Mary - San Pedro Hospital where she coordinated the adult as well as the student volunteer program. She has an extensive background of volunteer work. Lisa spent time in Washington D.C. working in the non-profit and public sector. She graduated from the University of the Pacific with a degree in Political Science. |

Office Manager – Sandra Molina Sandra Molina joined Volunteer Services in 2011. She previously worked at Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center for 5 years in the Medical Records Department. Sandra comes with an extensive background in customer service and patient handling. She is ver excited to be a part of the volunteer services team. |
