AIDS WALK Los Angeles (AWLA) was started in 1984 and was the first AIDS awareness walk in the United States. Initially, AWLA was a benefit for AIDS Project Los Angeles (APLA). In recent years, APLA and AWLA have started the Community Coalition Initiative (CCI). The CCI takes applications from local AIDS service organizations and clinics, and selects only between 20-25 to be part of this special program. CCI members are allowed a free outreach table at the event and are also allowed to keep the money that their team raises for their own organization.
The UCLA CARE Center has been part of the CCI for the past few years, and 2013 was our most successful AWLA yet - our intrepid team raised over $5,000! The CARE Center thanks our team members, and would like to especially thank our Star Walker, Ric Mondragon, for raising $1400. Says Ric, "I walk in memory of my brother who we lost 16 years ago and I walk with my dear friend Maria Palmer & the UCLA Care Center Team because they gave my brother such wonderful love and care."
Please join Team UCLA CARE Center in the 2014 AWLA!
