Each child in the CTICU is cared for by a team of professionals with special training in caring for a child with heart disease. This team includes physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, perfusionists, social workers and child life specialists who collaborate to provide the best care to patients in the CTICU. It is the collaborative spirit of the unit that assures we are providing the best possible care at all times. Patient rounds occur twice daily and provide the team an

opportunity to discuss all relevant issues and concerns and parents and patients are encouraged to participate. In the morning, rounds occur with the pediatric intensive care physician, pediatric cardiologist, pediatric intensive care or cardiology fellow, bedside nurse, surgical nurse practitioner and respiratory therapist. In the afternoon, the cardiac surgeons are present on rounds as well.
