The UCLA Pediatric Craniofacial Specialty Care Center at UCLA Mattel Children's Hospital offers a multidisciplinary approach to the diagnosis and treatment of children with congenital and acquired craniofacial conditions. Since its inception in 1972, the program has achieved national and international recognition and currently functions as one of the largest programs of its kind in the United States. The program also serves as a regional center for the southwestern United States.

The most common diagnoses in our program are:

  • Cleft lip and/or palate
  • Craniosynostosis
  • Microtia
  • Crouzon disease
  • Apert syndrome
  • Treacher Collins syndrome
  • Hemifacial microsomia
  • Pfeiffer syndrome
  • Saethre Chotzen syndrome
  • Facial and nasal encephaloceles with associated craniofacial disorders
  • Pierre Robin sequence

The program also serves patients of all ages with trauma-related injuries requiring craniofacial restoration. In addition, the craniofacial team extends its expertise into vascular anomalies and reconstruction following other procedures including cancer rejection.

A highly specialized team of medical professionals provides a broad range of individualized care. The core team consists of plastic surgeons, head and neck surgeons, pediatricians, medical geneticists, dentists, orthodontists, audiologists and speech pathologists. Additional specialties are available by referral including ophthalmologists, neurosurgeons, maxillofacial prosthetics specialists, otolaryngologists, psychologists and social services.
