Inpatient Programs

Adult Intensive Care Psychiatry Service
The Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital at UCLA offers this Psychiatric Service for patients who need medical assistance in stabilization of an acute emotional or psychiatric crisis, with or without complications by substance or alcohol abuse or dependence. Treatment consists of the expertise of psychiatric physicians, medical specialists, psychologists, clinical social workers, nursing staff, occupational therapists and marriage and family therapists.

ICU, Acute & Substance Abuse Adult Psychiatry Inpatient Unit
A 25-bed inpatient unit located in the Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital (R-NPH). This unit provides psychiatric services to adult patients who are hospitalized for the diagnosis and treatment of major psychiatric illnesses. The unit accepts patients admitted under the care of psychiatrists on either a voluntary or involuntary basis. The inpatient unit is divided into three distinct sections. One section is for patients who require intensive nursing care and treatment due to severely disorganized, unsafe, or agitated states. Another section is for the acutely ill adult who needs routine nursing care for the treatment of their psychiatric illness. The third section is for the adult who has substance abuse issues co-occuring with other major psychiatric illness, and specializes in so-called "dual diagnosis. The treatment team consists of psychiatry, psychology, medical specialists, clinical social work, occupational therapy and nursing.

Partial Hospitalization Programs

Adult Acute Partial Hospitalization Program
The Adult Acute Partial Hospital Program uses psychoeducational, psychodynamic and activity group therapy approaches to actively engage patients in the process of learning more about their disorders, developing effective coping and interpersonal skills, and reintegrating themselves back into the community.

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder Intensive Treatment Program
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder Intensive Treatment Program at the Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital at UCLA is for people who have severe OCD symptoms and a strong commitment to treating their disorder. OCD is a disabling disorder of distressing obsessions and time-consuming compulsions, often resulting in a less than full life. This can be changed however with behavior therapy in the form of Exposure and Response Management. This treatment is based on the fact that prolonged, direct contact with a fearful stimulus is necessary if anxiety is to diminish.

Maternal Mental Health Program
The UCLA Maternal Mental Health Program at Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital at UCLA offers two types of treatment programs for women seeking maternal mental-health services: the Maternal Mental Health Partial Hospitalization Program and the Maternal Mental Health Intensive Outpatient Program.

The UCLA Maternal Mental Health Program is dedicated to promoting positive mental health for women who are:
  • In their second and third trimesters of pregnancy, or
  • Up to one year postpartum

Our specialized treatment programs use the most current evidence-based clinical practices to offer mothers and their families a positive and healing patient-care experience.
